I think it’s official – I am addicted to sushi. I have had it 4 times in 3 days. But, nothing will ever compare to my experience last night. Next time you’re in New York City – go to Saka Gura. Absolute gem! It’s hidden below an office building just a block and a half east of Grand Central Station. It’s at 211 E 43rd St, between 2nd and 3rd.
I can’t even remember half of what we ordered but every thing was absolutely amazing!
A few things to definitely try – the kamo roast (chilled roasted duck wrapped around scallion sliced and
accented with basil sauce), sanshoku nasu dengaku (above) (grilled eggplant served with three kinds of miso – spinach, eggyolk, and red), and all of their sashimi tasted as if it had just been fetched from the ocean!
My favorite was probably the hot stone that we got to cook our kobe beef on. Not sure what it was called, but
ask a waiter – they are more than happy to help and definitely know what they’re talking about.
And don’t forget about desert! I’d say go for the homemade Chocolate Sea Salt Sorbet, or the Black Sesame Creme
I used taste buds I didn’t even know I had! The atmosphere of the restaurant definitely added to the
experience. Make sure to go to the bathroom (can’t tell you why!) and come hungry!
Did I mention they have the best Sake selection in all of New York City? 乾杯 (Cheers)!
